Care and feeding of Nikon DSLR batteries (Kenneth Smith, Chicago, IL United States, 2008-12-22)
The battery that came with my Nikon D40x crapped out after six months. One day it was working; two days later, it was stone-cold dead and wouldn't even hold a charge. Same with the no-name battery I bought to replace it.
This time I decided to buy TWO Nikon-branded batteries, have one as a backup, and take the battery out of the camera each and every time when I'm not using it. Will it increase the life expectancy beyond six months?
We shall see.
EPILOG: I spoke too soon. For the last month, I've been diligent about taking the battery out of the camera when I wasn't using it, and it was working perfectly. But the very day I wrote this review, I accidentally left the camera on and let this battery drain out; when I went to recharge it --- nothing. Good thing I bought that spare. And from now on, it's no-name batteries all the way. They last just as long as Nikon batteries (in this case, longer), and they're at least 30% cheaper. Name brand, indeed.
Amazing! (C. Gardner, Atlanta, GA, 2008-12-22)
I recently spent a week at Disney and order this battery as a backup to the one that originally came with my D60. I shot over 600 photos, roughly a third requiring flash. Between both batteries I only used roughly 1/3 of their combined charge. I was hesitant to buy the camera initially because of the battery, but these things will go forever! Great product and great price, Amazon!!
Good, but only 250 pictures (Neil Califano, New Jersey of course, 2008-12-20)
The battery seems to last about 250 pictures with heavy use of the LCD, flash and VR. Yes, according to Nikon using VR will reduce battery charge. Four stars seem appropriate since even with utilization of more features, 250 is less than half of the claimed 520 shots. I suppose this is about the best performance available now. Keeping a backup in your bag would be wise.
No Complains !!! (Sachin Kumar, 2008-10-21)
Got it for my new D40. No complains at all since nikon quality speaks for itself.
It's electrifying! (Jason Heiss, 2008-10-14)
Eh, what to say, it's a battery. I didn't feel comfortable with the 3rd party batteries so I sprung for the OEM one and it works fine. I have a D60.
